A Little Encouragement for a Not so Nice World

Published by purplerain904 at 4:45 am under Uncategorized Edit This

I guess it isn’t a surprise that I can’t sleep at the moment so I decided to do what I do best, which is clean. For those of you who don’t know me too well or as of late, I have a huge handbag full of work paper, bills, make up and other random things just jammed into my bag although I’m somewhat of a neat freak sometimes.

If there’s anything to clean, I’d like to clean my handbag first so I did. A part of me felt like I was cleaning out my handbag to focused on not thinking about other things, but at the same time I also felt like I was trying to search for something, but not really sure. I always believed that God has perfect timing. No doubt and low and behold, I found something that helped give me the comfort and support that I’ve been searching for unconscienciouly. God always finds a way to speak to me and He most certainly did.

At the bottom of pile of papers that was jammed into my bag, I found a written poem that was taped to my boyfriend’s wall that I took down so that I could copy it for my personal keepsake. Unfortunately or should I say fortunately, I forgot about it until now. Thank you God again for your amazing timing and also thank you Ben, for having this poem as one of your inspirations to keep on living your life and not giving up on what matters the most.

And so, in the wee hours of the night, I’d like to share the poem that has softened my heart, eased my soul and strengthened my spirit. Enjoy and God bless!

DON’T QUIT
by Edgar A. Guest

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
when the funds are low and the debts are high,
and you want to smile but you have to sigh,
when care is pressing you down a bit - rest if you must,
but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns.
As everyone of us sometimes learns.
And many a fellow turns about when he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow - you may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man;
often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor’s cup;
and he learned too late when the night came down,
how close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out - the silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
and when you never can tell how close you are,
it may be near when it seems afar;
so stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit - it’s when things seem worst,
you must not quit.
